This past weekend, we gathered with deep appreciation and warm smiles at the Touch of Love Food Bank Volunteers’ Meet-Up, a much-needed pause to simply be together, outside the usual flow of duty.
It was a time of laughter, reflection, and meaningful connection among those who give so much of themselves throughout the year.
The Hands and Hearts Behind Our Food Banks
Touch of Love currently runs three food bank sites, located at Grampian Road, Tullos Community Centre, and Bridge of Don. They are powered by a small, dedicated team of just 10 volunteers.
These volunteers are the quiet force behind every parcel packed, every family welcomed, and every kind word shared. They give their time without pay, but with plenty of care.
The Work That Goes Beyond Shelves and Stock
Week in, week out, our volunteers carry out tasks that often go unseen, but never unfelt. They:
• Sort and pack food parcels based on household size
• Check expiration dates to ensure quality and safety
• Keep the food bank café area inviting and open for conversation
• Offer signposting and practical support to anyone who needs it
>
It’s a balance of practical work and emotional presence, a service marked by attentiveness and dignity.
While not everyone could attend the meet-up due to personal reasons, every volunteer’s presence is felt in the work we do. Whether they’re on the ground every week or stepping in when needed, their contribution carries weight.
Over the last year, volunteers across our food banks gave an astounding 5,235 hours of service. In that same time, the number of individuals and families needing support rose sharply, so did the commitment of our team.
A Deep and Lasting Impact
These number of hours represent real moments of support during difficult times. Behind every food parcel handed out is a person or family being seen and cared for, with respect and without judgement.
And behind that? A volunteer who showed up, stayed late, or gave a kind word when it was most needed.
To our volunteers: Your dedication, patience, and kindness form the backbone of our food bank work. The consistency with which you show up makes a real difference, and it does not go unnoticed.
Thank you for walking this journey with us. You are deeply valued. 🌟
